the State of North Carolina, the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art
Examiners is the regulatory agency with the responsibility of upholding
the ethical and professional standards of the profession. For instance,
the Board issues licenses to aspiring cosmetologists like you.
If
you are a cosmetology student in North Carolina who is interested in
applying for a license, you must have completed 1,500 course hours at a
state approved school and complete what are called performances. You can

state’s cosmetology exams.
The Board has partnered with D.L.
Roope to administer its exams. Students who attended a school in North
Carolina can pick up an application at their school. You must schedule
your exam with D.L. Roope.
For its written exams, the Board uses
the National-Interstate Council of State Board of Cosmetology testing
format. Test takers are provided 90 minutes to complete the exam. You
will be tested on several major topics. These topics include the
following: scientific concepts, hair care and services, skin care and
services, and nail care and services. You must score at least a 75
percent to pass.
