More About the Minnesota Cosmetology Exam
In the State of Minnesota, the Minnesota Board of Cosmetologist Examiners is the regulatory body charged with the responsibility of upholding the professionalism of the cosmetology industry. For example, the Board issues licenses to aspiring cosmetologists.
In order to be issued a cosmetology license, you must meet several requirements. A student, for example, must have a high school degree or GED diploma, have completed 1550 hours at an approved cosmetology school, and passed the written exam.
The Minnesota Board of Cosmetologists Examiners has partnered with Pearson Vue to administer its written cosmetology exams. The general and state written portions of the exam cost $56 to take. Students have three hours to take the exam. There are 130 scored questions and 25 pretest questions that are not scored. The written exam is administered on a computer-based program. It is special to note that different forms of the exam are distributed and may require a different number of questions to be answered corrected for a passing grade.
The exam will ask questions on the following major areas: rules, regulations, and safety; trichology; shampoo/scalp analysis; styling; haircutting; hair color, bleaching/lightening, and tinting; permanent waving; chemical straightening and relaxing; esthetics; and nails.
